Tools and Materials

What you will need to do manga-or so I'm told!!
  • a pencil!!  I use a mechanical pencil- 0.5 lead for finer lines, 0.7 for thicker lighter lines.  Or you can use a good ol' number 2 pencil they work just fine.
  • You'll need paper, you can go all out and by some pretty expensive manga paper or you can use plain ol' sketch paper, typing paper of higher quality works fine as well.
  • Inking tools:
  • *to be added later*
  • Reference objects:  I use the How To Draw Manga tutorial books myself, though I find the HTDM comic series out of Antartic Press more useful for many things:  check out ebay, you can find several of everything there.

Terminology

Terms you'll often see me use:

  • Shoujo:  manga made for young girls
  • Shouen:  Manga made for young boys
  • Bishoujo: A beautiful manga girl
  • Bishouen:  A handome young manga guy
  • Head width: The width of the human skull, used for measurement.
